Objects with a Human Touch

Stefanie Hering is a world-renowned designer and the founder of Hering Berlin, a luxury brand established in 1999 that redefines the role of porcelain in fine dining and beyond. Her passion for ceramics began in childhood and evolved into a lifelong discipline, shaped by rigorous training in both traditional craftsmanship and design, with a clear focus on the material of porcelain.

Gaining hands-on experience in Ireland, Denmark, and Germany, Hering completed her studies at the technical school in Höhr-Grenzhausen, where she earned her master craftsman’s diploma and certification as a state-approved ceramic designer.

Briefly after, she launched her own Studio in 1992, and since then has become one of Europe’s most celebrated tableware designers. Her work bridges functional precision with sculptural artistry, transforming every plate into a medium of sensory storytelling.

A Master of Porcelain, A Visionary of Form

Trained as a master porcelain maker, Stefanie’s practice reflects deep technical mastery paired with fearless innovation. Every piece undergoes multiple manual steps, refining its shape and surface, before being fired at over 1400°C, achieving a level of density and translucency unique to Hering Berlin. This method, developed and refined by Stefanie herself, allows her porcelain to withstand the rigors of high-performance kitchens while remaining visually light and emotionally expressive.

Her pieces often feature a tactile contrast: unglazed bisque porcelain on the exterior, with delicately glazed interiors. The result is a distinct material language — pure, architectural, yet sensual — which complements rather than competes with the plated dish.

All Hering Berlin porcelain is produced in Germany in collaboration with Porzellanmanufaktur Reichenbach who share the same commitment to handcraft and perfection.

A Signature Style – Understated, Yet Unforgettable

Stefanie’s portfolio includes tableware, glassware, lighting, and collectible design, each conceived with a commitment to uncompromising quality. Her bisque porcelain designs are recognized for their clean silhouettes and soft elegance, while being surpassingly versatile considering their understated appearance.

Her works are in active use in over 275 restaurants as well as selected hotels worldwide, including:

  • César, New York City
  • Per Se and French Laundry, New York City and Nappa Valley
  • Mirazur, Menton
  • Jordnær, Copenhagen
  • Sézanne, Tokyo
  • Reale, Castel di Sangro
  • Restaurant Enrico Bartolini, Milano
  • Osteria Francescana, Modena
  • Belmond’s Eastern and Oriental Train, Singapore, Malaysia,Thailand

She has created bespoke collections for culinary luminaries such as Andre Chiang, Tom Sellers, and Jungsik Yim, and her designs are frequently photographed in some of the world’s most prestigious culinary publications.

Porcelain as a Canvas for Culinary Dialogue

At the heart of Hering Berlin lies a belief: porcelain is not a passive surface — it is an active partner in the dining ritual. Stefanie’s designs are modular and versatile, allowing chefs to create tailored sequences across tasting menus. Her porcelain supports not just the plating but the emotion and precision behind each dish.

Each vessel becomes a narrative element — one that frames, reflects, and enhances the dish it presents. Whether capturing the fleeting elegance of a foam, the vibrant energy of a sauce, or the texture of seared ingredients, her designs are crafted to elevate rather than distract. They invite touch, conversation, and presence.

The philosophy is one of dialogue: between chef and guest, between craft and cuisine, between tradition and the now. Stefanie Hering doesn’t just create porcelain — she creates stagecraft for culinary expression.

This philosophy resonates deeply with All4Chefs’ mission — to foster storytelling through culinary and design excellence. In 2025, Stefanie joins the All4Chefs Summer Menu Challenge, gifting signature pieces to a Michelin-starred chef and engaging in a global editorial, visual, and social activation.

Design for the Senses — From Workshop to World Stage

Hering Berlin objects begins with a sketch and often end in a dining room — but the journey in between is one of meticulous handcraft. Stefanie leads a team of artisans who blend innovation and tradition, using porcelain as a living material. From custom service lines for fine hotels to limited collector’s editions and collaborations, her work spans art, function, and cultural expression.

Beyond hospitality, Hering Berlin also collaborates with private collectors and interior designers seeking bespoke porcelain and glassware creations. The studio’s commitment to sustainability, transparency, and long-term value makes each piece a lifelong companion for both professionals and connoisseurs.

Her work has been exhibited at Maison & Objet, Milan Desingweek, and Homo Faber, and recognized with honors including:

  • Red Dot Design Award – Best of the Best
  • Designpreis der Bundesrepublik Deutschland (Gold)
  • Hessian State Prize for Applied Arts
